AIC ( Académie internationale de la Céramique ) IAC ( International Academy of Ceramics)
The International Academy of Ceramics is the main organisation representing the interests ofceramists worldwide. Its membership consists primarily of individual makers, supported by writers and critics, Museum and gallery curators, and private collectors. Correspondent membership is available to professional associations, ceramics work centres and educational institutions, which considerably extends the networking capacity of the Academy. Current membership consists of nearly 400 makers, a further 75 individual members, and about 25 correspondent groups, representing a total of 55 nations from all continents.
The aims of the Academy are to present international contemporary ceramics at the highest level, to encourage cultural cooperation through ceramics around the world, and to facilitate communication between ceramists and museum curators, private galleries and collectors, art schools and other professional Institutions.
Ceramic art – a central point of interest!
The Ceramics Symposium 2005 offers Tyrolean artists the opportunity of artistic exchange with international artists. The symposium, which was initiated and solely organised by Gabriela Nepo-Stieldorf, will enrich us as in a human sense and in the encounter with other cultures.
It is a great pleasure for me that it was able to organise this symposium within the framework of the EU-Japan Year 2005 and that three artists from the Far East have been invited to Innsbruck. This is particularly interesting because Ceramic Art is a very important field of art in Japan and it promises a highly professional level of work.
I am also pleased that the symposium is accompanied by an exhibition: here the Tyrolean Capital is once again a link, and acts – in analogy to the city's coat of arms – as a bridge between the 19 participating artists, most of whose work has never been exhibited in Austria before.
As the mayor and cultural advisor of the Capital of Tyrol, I most heartily welcome all the participants of the Symposium to Innsbruck. I am very pleased that you have accepted the invitation of Gabriela Nepo-Stieldorf.
I hope that you can benefit from new creative impulses and I wish you an artistically fruitful time in our beautiful city.
